Do you know everything that you should know about wedding cakes? The more informed you will be, the better decisions you will be able to make. Here I've got for you some top tips on wedding cakes. Have a look at them:
Taste the cake
When you start making appointments, find out each of the baker's next tasting schedule. Clients are usually invited into bakery at tastings for sampling the exemplary cakes, asking questions and reviewing portfolios. This is a great opportunity for clients to meet the bakers and understand their range of abilities completely.
Choose a style
After you've decided about your reception décor and dress style, choose the cake because these elements can serve as a blueprint for the structure and design of your cake. Go for a cake that is compatible with the style of the season, venue, flower arrangements, your gown or the menu. If you want colorful accents, give the baker fabric swatches. Remember one thing-the cake must be a part of your wedding and not just a glaring sideshow.
Decide upon the size
3-tiers usually serve fifty to hundred guests. You will need about 5 layers for two hundred guests or more. However, if you are planning to throw the reception in a grand room that comes up with a high ceiling, you should increase the stature of the cake with columns between the tiers.
Price it out
Although the cost varies, wedding cakes in Brisbane are mainly priced by slice. More complicated the cake, higher is the price tag. This means, if you want to add hard-to-find fillings, more intricate decorations, more vibrant colours, moulded shapes or handmade sugar-flower detailing on your cake, you will have to pay more to the cake designer for his or her labour. Also keep in mind that fondant icing is costlier than buttercream.
Find out ways of saving
Order a small cake, which is decorated to perfection but may only feed a handful plus several sheet cakes of same flavour for actually feeding the guests. Don't be lured to order cakes with tiers, specially moulded shapes and handmade sugar flowers. Rather garnish it with seasonal fruits and flower for an elegant effect. If you will have a dessert table along with the cake, consider to order a cake sized for half of your guests. Servings may be smaller but fee will be less as well.
When it comes to deciding between fondant or buttercream remember that buttercream is more delicious. But since people love the look of fondant more, consider frosting it in buttercream first and then add a layer of fondant over the confection.
